They cannot play a wrong note. Only music.
In short. Wonderchord is a musical instrument app for children aged 2–6, for iPhone and iPad. A child presses one of six colour pads and sweeps twelve rainbow strings; the strings retune themselves, so every combination sounds musical and a wrong note isn't possible. Nine familiar songs, five voices, and a lesson mode that waits. No ads, no in-app purchases, no data collected, works offline. £4.99, one-time.
Twelve rainbow strings that are always in tune. Six colour pads that sound beautiful in any combination. Nine songs they already know. A real instrument built for the smallest hands in the house.

How it works
Simple enough for two. Real enough to keep.
Press a colour
Six pads — sun, heart, star, moon, cloud and rainbow. Every combination sounds good, in any order. There is nothing to get right, so there is nothing to get wrong.
Sweep the rainbow
Twelve strings that retune themselves to whatever your child is holding. True multitouch and gentle haptics, so a small hand dragged across the glass feels like it's really touching something.
Learn by playing
"Wait for me!" pauses each song until your child plays the glowing pad — then it rolls on. A star for every song finished. They aren't watching music happen; they're making it happen.
Nine songs
The ones they already know
Real melodies, with the words appearing on screen as they're sung.
The words appear as they’re sung
Wait for me!
A lesson with infinite patience
Turn any song into a lesson. It pauses at every chord change and the right pad glows until your child presses it — then the song carries on.
It never rushes them, never buzzes, never takes a life away. A two-year-old can take twenty seconds to find the star and the song simply waits. Finish one and a star is yours.
That patience is the whole design. Confidence is what we're actually building; the music is how.
Built like an instrument
Not a noisy toy
Warm, hand-tuned sounds. A moulded cream chassis inspired by the electronic autoharps of the 1980s. Controls sized for little hands.
Five voices — Omni, Harp, Bell, Twinkle and Organ — plus drums with turtle and bunny speeds to play along to. It rewards curiosity: press something, and something beautiful happens.
Beautiful on iPhone and iPad, in any orientation.

Behind a press-and-hold parent gate
Hold the grown-ups button in the app to see the stars your child has earned and what each song teaches. That progress lives only on your device — we never see it, because there is nowhere for it to go. Designed for Apple's Kids category and for COPPA from day one.

Questions parents ask
Before you buy
What age is it actually for?
Two to six is the sweet spot. Two-year-olds press pads and sweep the rainbow and are delighted. Four- and five-year-olds start finishing songs in "Wait for me!" mode and collecting stars. Older children tend to graduate to PocketStrum, which is the same idea with the full chord panel.
Are there really no in-app purchases?
Really none. There is no purchase mechanism inside the app at all, so there is nothing for a child to accidentally buy — which is the actual reason it's built that way.
Can my child get out of the app or onto the internet?
No. There are no outbound links anywhere in the app, and it makes no network connections. If you want to be extra sure, Guided Access on iPhone and iPad will lock them into it entirely.
Does it work without wifi?
Completely. Everything — songs, voices, lessons, stars — is on the device. It's designed for the back seat of a car with no signal.
Will this teach real music, or is it just noise?
The strings play genuine chord tones and the songs use the real melodies, so a child's ear is being tuned to actual harmony rather than random sounds. What it teaches first is rhythm, listening, and the confidence that comes from finishing a song. Formal theory comes much later, and this makes that later step easier.
iPhone or iPad?
Both, at full quality. An iPad is lovely because the rainbow is bigger and two children can play at once, but it's designed to be beautiful on a phone too. Requires iOS or iPadOS 17 or later.
Can more than one child in my family use it?
Yes — Family Sharing is enabled, so up to six family members can install it from your one purchase.
How loud is it?
The voices are deliberately soft and rounded rather than piercing, and it obeys your device volume and any Screen Time or headphone-safety limits you've set.
